Standard potentiometer applications

Standard potentiometers are rarely used to directly control significant amounts of power (more than a watt or so). Instead they are used to adjust the level of analog signals (for example volume controls on audio equipment), and as control inputs for electronic circuits. For example, a light dimmer uses a potentiometer to control the switching of a triac and so indirectly to control the brightness of lamps.
Preset potentiometers are widely used throughout electronics wherever adjustments must be made during manufacturing or servicing.
High precision potentiometer’s user-actuated potentiometers are widely used as user controls, and may control a very wide variety of equipment functions. The widespread use of potentiometers in consumer electronics declined in the 1990s, with rotary encoders, up/down push-buttons, and other digital controls now more common. However they remain in many applications, such as volume controls and as industrial position sensors.

Our high precision potentiometer is wire wound potentiometers with high accuracy

Our high precision potentiometer is wire wound potentiometers with high accuracy, high reliability and a long rotational life. They are used in a wide range of industrial applications and in railway applications. Each high resolution potentiometer is supplied at the required ohmic value in the range of feasible values.
Multiple-units potentiometers are achieved by combining several units.
These wire-wound potentiometers are constructed with:
high-accuracy, low-temperature coefficient windings
a modular housing of light alloy supporting a stainless steel shaft with 2 precision roller bearings (except for the "Economy" class)
critical parts (slider, slip ring) made in precious metal alloys
a specific wiper technology with a double triangular arm, and redundant internal connections on some models for maximum reliability
numerous options: special variation laws, electrical and/or mechanical travel, intermediary taps, terminal wires, shaft design, housing, etc.

Our High precision potentiometer uses conductive plastic technology

Our High precision potentiometer uses conductive plastic technology (infinite resolution), are available as wirewound models with larger power dissipation and longer lifetime or use hybrid (combined advantages) technology. A wide choice of resistive outputs is offered. The contact less potentiometers (long lifetime) use Hall effect IC technology and offer DC voltage output.
Besides the different contact less models we offer a great types of potentiometers such as Single-turn/Multi-turn, specials such as Cosinus potentiometers, oil-filled types, multiple gang types, motorised potentiometers and a number of turns-counting dials. Of course we offer many opportunities for customising of nearly all types, both electrically and mechanically, already for small series. Don't hesitate to contact one of our potentiometer specialists directly.
